OOC: Cannons 9 and 4, target the bridge in the town to the North West of their position and fire until it is not usable. The rest of the units, dig in and fortify the bridge head to repel the Dominion Forces if they want to try and push us out. Then start sleeping in shifts. Four hours on watch, four hours sleeping.
Taniel frowned as the Dominion forces pulled back under threat of cannon fire. He had been hoping they would be foolish enough to push in and take more losses. "Gentleman." He said turning to gunnery officers Roger and Liam. "Please make that bridge not exist anymore." He said pointing at the moonlight outlined bridge in the town to the North West of their current position. "It is a bit of an eye sore." Taniel said with a tight smile. The two men nodded and headed back towards their guns.
With that order given, Taniel turned to the soldiers. "I know I am not usually your commanding officer, but your men have done an excellent job so far. Pass that along to them." The two soldiers who's names Taniel hadn't learned yet both nodded a bit stiffly. It wasn't surprising, given that he was usually a Naval Officer and had no proper place commanding an army division. "Now, dig in and fortify this side of the bridge. Let your men sleep in shifts, four hours on watch working and four hours sleeping in three shifts." The men nodded again and headed out to relay the orders.
Taniel sighed and called a runner over. "Send my regards to the First Citizen, but I am too busy to come back and meet with him." He said to the runner. "Now, get moving." With those orders given, Taniel went about making sure his orders were followed properly.

Garrek nodded and rubbed his forehead. The time spent awake was catching up to him. "Return to your commander. Tell him to lead his forces to the southern portion of the river. We will construct a crossing for you."
Thereafter he turned to the captains of the pioneer corps. "We need to hook back to avoid notice by the enemies, and then travel south. We can't afford to lose these lost soldiers." He told one of their captains to give him a horse, and rode off while they scampered to obey his orders. Riding to some of the infantrymen nearby, he ordered: "Keep this crossing under guard. Two regiments, follow the pioneers and keep them safe."
The battle was still not lost. If it killed him, he would see this through.

OOC:
All units under the First Citizen's are to prepare for the upcoming march northward. The men will be instructed to share the guard duties between them, making it so that half of them will be sleeping while the others are on guard duty. Those who have stood watch will then be replaced by those who have rested, enabeling them to get some rest as well. Those who are on guard duty are to keep a keen eye out for any enemy activity and react appropiatly if enemy movement is detected. We will make sure to destroy the bridges we left behind - this is to be done at once, unless we manege to rescure the soldires who remain on the other side. If we manege to rescue them, the bridges are to be destroyed immediatly thereafter.

Turn 12 - about 2 am - turn ends Sunday 14th Link: dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/14467358/eclipse/eclipse_republic_tactical_ag80135dgva_012.jpgFirst Citizen Avus GulaThe First Citizen retired to his pavilion, safe in the centre of the camp. His thoughts were already far away, conjuring conquests future and distant, and new laurels to pile upon his old. Briefly, concern rippled through his mind. The day had been a rough one for the rank and file. But Republican soldiery was the best in the world. If only they could get face to face with their enemy, they did not break. The glory he would wrest from the world, using their fists, would know no limits. Gods would weep. Emperors bow. Drifting to sleep in the silken sheets of his canopy bed, he dreamt of breaking down the doors of one of the Malvern emperor’s harems. Commodore "Black Jack" Taniel CorsoHis men dug in and taking some rest, the commodore considered their situation. It was still tenous, exposed. Since the bridge to the south had been damaged earlier in the day, it would perhaps be wise to have some of those Pioneers, or Inquisitor mages, repair it. It wouldn’t do to have it come crumbling to pieces behind his back. Because, smiling, Taniel Corso had no intention of having the same fate befall him as had just befallen the Dominion commander in the town to the north. The bridge of Orian was now nothing more than a smouldering ruin. The enemy had just been cut in two. Of course, there were more bridges farther north, and no doubt he enemy was scrambling to reinforce their eastern defences. The longer the Republic waited, the stiffer the fight ahead... High Inquisitor Pietro GoriLeaving some mounted Inquisitors to keep an eye on the river, Gori returned to the main camp to rest. Hearing reports from the Inquisitors spread out in the army, he learned much of the day’s events. To the north, facing Corso’s forces, had been spotted a regiment of magi known as the Silvered Fire - long-ranged and deadly. Also, for much of the day giant eagles had been strafing the artillery batteries with boulders dropped from the sky. His Inquisitors had been able to shield the cannons from too much damage, but the eagles flew too high to be reached. But that was the past. He had to look ahead. They only had one more day before, around noon on the day after that, the Eclipse arrived. If the Republic had not taken control of Falor by then, or at least pierced its defences far enough to send a team forward to assassinate Radiance, all of this would be for nothing. General Garrek (Renal Sistorian)The Pioneers disassembled the bridges behind them, severing the Republic’s connection with the western side of the river. Then Garrek led them south, two thousand Pioneers and two regiments of infantry he requisitioned for protection. So large a force was impossible to hide completely, but they did their best to move stealthily, watching the shadowy northern reaches of the Ediren hills across the river for any sign of Dominion presence. For hours, the exhausted Pioneers laboured in near complete silence and darkness to reassemble a single bridge across the river. The current was dangerous - several dozen men were lost in the black water, their cries cut short. Then he saw them - two companies of cavalry, his own troops. The Atoners, veterans from Marialla. The bridge was still unfinished, but they unmounted and started helping the Pioneers. The first man across was colonel Lorenzo, meeting Garrek’s welcome with a blank gaze. They came from the south, staying close to the river - first a trickle, a troop here and there. Then a full company, then entire regiments. Hundreds turned into thousands, and soon they were crowding the bend in the river, a hushed multitude waiting nervously for their escape. A dreadful susurrus of voices, mutterings and whispered warnings, filled the air. The crossing went slowly. The moon came out from behind the clouds. Garrek felt the gasps of his aides like blows to his back. The hills were teeming with Dominion soldiers. When he looked back, he saw Lorenzo bounding back across the bridge, shoving men aside - back to the cavalry. Helpless, Garrek watched as The Atoners charged, their last charge, a suicide charge. For every minute they bought with their lives, dozens of Republican lives were saved. Perhaps, perhaps… Then he saw them coming from the north - a second Dominion force. Whipping his looking-glass in their direction, he made out an illuminated figure in front. He felt the world shifting beneath his feet. He recognized that figure from the meeting with the Dominion dignitaries the evening before the battle… Lightdancer. Son of Radiance. A Seraph of the Dominion. A demon prince. In his former life, Renal Sistorian would have been awestruck to see such a creature at all, let alone on the field of battle. Now, General Garrek of the Republican army felt a fist take hold of his heart and squeeze. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV7jTYTK6Us The sound of battle to the south, and the shouts of the panicked Republicans thronging the bridge, all died out. Everyone froze as night brightened with ghostly cerulean lights, streaking stars, arching across the world, blossoming like flowers far above the dark ground. For a time, the beauty was heartrending - a spreading network of glass, glimmering gently, shimmering beneath the moon. Until it began falling to the ground, no longer cold and distant, but filaments of fire threading the world with fury. The screaming began.

[Give inquisitoral support to the artillery that Kerrah' moves]

Cursing profusely, Garrek gestured for the troops to keep moving. "Cross the damn bridge already! CROSS IT!" He yelled loudly. Inside, he was afraid his yelling would incite a panic and cause more deaths in the crossing, but he didn't have time to urge for orderliness. "Someone fire flares to call for backup!" He said to the various sub-officers around him. "One for artillery and one for magic! We need inquisitors!"
"What we need is to cut the bridge", one of the First Citizen's mid-level officers insisted, even while some of the others hastened to obey the instructions. "We can't let the enemy cross! Everyone who came here knew they would die. Let the ones who haven't crossed yet fight to the death and weaken our enemy."
"NO!" Garrek said and spun to face the elderly, handsome colonel. "If we abandon our men, not only will they surrender to the enemy, our remaining troops will suffer in morale. We have to work to save every single one we can. Once the High Inquisitor plays his trick, we'll be home safe and we can surrender to the grave. But until then, we need every man."
A silence fell among the people gathered around Garrek. He took a breath. The flares fired into the nighttime air above them: a blue calling for artillery support, a green calling for inquisitors. Clearing his throat, the general said: "Once there are more enemies than friendlies on the bridge, we cut it. But not before."

OOC: Bring Blue Cannons 7 & 5 up to bridge to allow cannons 9 and 4 to sleep. Cannons 7 & 5 to open fire on the units in the town to the North West and continue until the units are destroyed or move out of range. Also sending a runner to bring Blue 1 to the bridge to do some scouting. They are going to move up and poke the town to see if they can coax enemy units into the open. If no enemy units come out of the town to attack them, they will go a bit further north to see what they can find out. They will immediately withdraw if attacked however back to the bridge. Everyone else on the bridge is to continue sleeping in shifts. However, all four cannons will go to maximum fire if any enemy units attack Blue 1 or the units defending the bridge to provide fire support.
Taniel peered at the town... there was still movement there. Maybe even some light trying to be hidden. Not all of the enemy units had made it across the bridge. However, there was also a light show far to the south that seemed to be magic. "Damn spirits..." He muttered as he turned away from the display. Nothing he could do about that, he was busy trying to make sure the army had somewhere to go when the sun was up.
He grabbed a runner who looked less dead on his feet than the rest. "Go back across the bridge and deliver the following message. Cannon units command by Roger and Liam are to get some rest to be ready for the morning. Then go to Cannons commanded by Max and Samuel, they are to move up to range of the town and begin firing at it. I want the enemy there suppressed if they can't be wiped out." The runner nodded as he took in the orders. "Now, repeat that back to me."
"Sir! Cannons commanders Roger and Liam are to get some sleep. Cannons Commanded by Max and Samuel are to move up and begin firing on the town to suppress the enemy there." The runner repeated looking a bit nervous.
"Good... oh and one more bit." Taniel said as he suddenly looked thoughtful. "All four cannons are to be support the units here on the north side of the bridge in case of enemy action." The runner nodded once more and Taniel waved him off.
He was dead tired... but Taniel still had more orders to give. Another runner was summoned. "Please bring my regards to Marine Captain Kasper, I need his men up here." He told the runner who nodded and ran off. Taniel blinked, he had meant to give more orders... but he could give it in person too.
Half an hour later, which had left Taniel asleep sitting down he was startled awake by a hand shaking his shoulder. He blinked and looked up at Kasper who had a grim expression. "You called for me Sir?" He asked politely, he looked actually fairly rested. Lucky bastard.
"Yes..." Taniel said as he stood up, a yawn cutting off anything else he was going to say. "I need your men to take a bit of a risk... we need some scouting done before we march when the sun comes up. We don't have any cavalry left... so well trained marines will have to do." He said with a somewhat wry smile.
Kasper chuckled a bit at that. "Of course Sir... the Marines will have to do all the hard work the army can't do for itself." He said with a bit of humor as the two Naval Officers shared a brief happy moment. Then the moment was gone as cannon fire from south of the bridge reminded them why they were here. "Right Sir, how far out do you want us to poke?"
"To the town... and a bit further if you are not opposed. If anything comes out to attack you... withdraw. The cannons will shoot at it. I am done taking risks with the men under my command." Taniel told Kasper.
"Still a risky... but it may work fairly well. Those men in the town are probably getting fairly pissed off at being unable to fight back." Kasper said looking at the town that was currently being shelled by cannon fire. "Sir." Was all that was said before he walked off to gather up his marines for the sortie.
Taniel sighed and sat back down. "Dice are thrown... lets see where they land." He said quietly as he looked up at the moon.

Turn 13 - about 5:30 am - turn ends Thursday 18th Link: dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/14467358/eclipse/eclipse_republic_tactical_ag80135dgva_013.jpgThe RepublicFirst Citizen Avus GulaIs sleeping. High Inquisitor Pietro GoriThe pavilion of the High Inquisitor was strictly off-limits for anyone but the highest initiates. Strange lights flickered from its mysterious chambers far into the night... Commodore "Black Jack" Taniel CorsoAfter a long bombardment, which had completely suppressed any sign of Dominion presence in the town of Orian, Kasper’s regiment nosed its way across the no man’s land. Watching from the camp, Taniel could see with his own eyes as an enemy regiment charged out from behind the town. After a brief engagement, Kasper retreated and fired flares for the artillery. Behind the Commodore, Aemilon roared with renewed strength as all four cannon batteries opened fire. Orian exploded in clouds of smoke and dust. Kasper retreated back to camp. He reported that there seemed to be quite a force of maybe three, four thousand soldiers huddled up just north of Orian. And to the northeast, an even larger camp - though disorganized and unprofessional-looking - sprawled on the fields between Orian and the town there, Tilium. Taniel pondered his options. All in all, he was outnumbered as much as two to one. Even with the cannon supporting him, if the enemy charged, this could all go south much too quickly… Just then word arrived: a Dominion messenger had approached their camp requesting parley. The High Palatine would have words with High Inquisitor Gori - and only the High Inquisitor. A meeting on neutral ground could be arranged first thing in the morning. General Garrek (Renal Sistorian) Helpless, Garrek watched as the last of his desperate forces, trapped on the south shore, attempted to swim across. Hundreds drowned. A few dozen made it through the black currents. The thunder of artillery chased off the last of the Dominion troops, but much too late to make any difference. Lightdancer - a Seraph of Radiance, a Prince of Darkness - had led a regiment of Dominion magi into the field and they had scorched the ground to glass. They had laughed as the scattered gunfire bounced away from them harmlessly. They had sung psalms to their diabolical beliefs - beliefs he had once shared - as they had massacred men as if they were babes. Against such a force, the weary and panicked survivors had stood no chance, no chance at all. Garrek turned his back on the grisly sight. It was time to look forward. Almost two thousand of his men had made it across. He went to them, expecting to find them in tatters, demoralized, useless. He was surprised, then, that though they were exhausted they had already formed up in ranks. He learned that they were the first and second regiments of his own Foreign Guard, under colonel Tassoni and a surviving captain, Henri da Gilano, and a mercenary regiment that had - against all odds - not fled the fight. He shook hands with the mercenary leader, a grizzled, scarred man who only introduced himself in clipped tones as “Albert”. Of over nine thousand under his command this morning, this was what remained - two thousand survivors, as well as one more regiment back in the main camp. But looking them in their faces, Garrek felt a twinge of... fear. They looked on him as strangers did at an obstacle in the road, measuring his worth. The day past had changed them in ways he, excluded from their experience, could not imagine. He knew only one thing for sure. Men such as these could never be defeated. They might be destroyed, but never broken. The Dominion had lost their chance to kill them when they had it - and these men would make them pay the price.

I was drinking some tea, when suddenly one of my Inquisitors comes from the front. Bearing word that, the High Palatine wanted to exchange some words with me, amusing. I remember fondly the chat we had over the spirit realm. And decide to ride off to meet him. I command my Inquisitor to tell the messenger, that I will have this meeting with the High Palatine. But that would not stop us from marching.
He left the pavillion and went to the troops.
Today it was the day they should march out of this island, north.
They would marh north, whatever it took, until they got to that bloody hill south of the city.

OOC: Parley request is being handled by others than me. Taniel was going to tell the guy to go fuck himself five ways to Sunday. Artillery in a column, two by two. Half of my marines in the front and half in the back. The rest of the army surrounds us as we march north. Sappers and Artillery work together to rig the bridge to blow up, but we aren't setting it off immediately.
Taniel rolled his eyes as the Inquisitors played nice with the messenger. Damn Dominion...
He set about getting his artillery train organized. "Marines, half of you in front and half you in back. Last line of defense, nobody gets through to the artillery unless it is over a road of your bodies!" There was a ragged hurrah from the Marines. They were well rested and prepared, they would do their duty. "Artillery, pack up and get ready to move! We have a long march ahead of us."
With those orders given, Taniel grabbed one of the artillery officers. "Grab a barrel or two of powder. Give it to the sappers and help them rig it up. I want that bridge ready to be blown up once all of our troops are across it." Taniel said pointing at the bridge he had used to secure the north approach. "But... just leave it as is."
With those orders given, Taniel shook his head and went to meetup with the rest of the army commanders.

For hours, commanders and captains bark into the milling confusion, struggling to create order out of the chaos. Finally, they set out. Riding with the first ranks, the First Citizen notices that the formation starts drifting almost at once. The front is delayed while companies of Inquisitors clear the road of mines. The flanks skirt the fringes of the nearby towns, struggling to remain in formation. To the east, the enemy gathers. High Inquisitor Pietro GoriThe Dominion envoy thanks the High Inquisitor for agreeing to meet with the High Palatine. The Palatine would be happy to meet in about an hour’s time, at some neutral ground between the armies. Gori need only make his way to an acceptable location and make his presence known, and the High Palatine would shortly meet with him. One small detail being that the Republican army is advancing. Gori rides in the centre, close to his two elite Inquisitor units. Commodore "Black Jack" Taniel CorsoIt takes hours, but the formation at last sets out. Of course, as long as they were being carted forward, the artillery would be useless - the entire army would have to halt for half an hour while they were being set up, if it became necessary to use them. General Garrek (Renal Sistorian) The exhausted survivors and pioneer regiments follow in the wake of the Republican army. Garrek watches a team of pioneers rig the bridge to explode while the sun rises.

He fiddled with his fingers as the phalanx slowly marched forward. He did not cared, to wait for the others to make any commands. He had seen enough of what those commands did yesterday.
And he would not abide for more yesterday today. If it had not been for the dutiful courage of his dear First Citizen, all of the plan would had probably came rushing down into ashes.
He knew they would refuse for a parley with the High Palatine, the fools did not know half of what was going on here. But they had no right to it either. They had all been in the tent, and saw the lack of agreement. None of them knew of the dearly interesting conversation the High Palatine and him had in his own mind, through the wonders of the deamon realm.
Where they fools for not knowing? No, poor fellows, they were not. Dearly they where not, they all knew what expected them back in the republic if they failed. Or worse, if he didn’t return. They where wise enough to fear failure.
But maybe, they feared more than it was needed.
He fumbled at his thoughts a bit, once more. Thinking what to do. Twisting magic at his finger tips. Until he decided what to do, he called for a messenger. And fumbled a few drawings on paper. Before he spoke.
‘’Tell the others, I will march northwest, with my Mounted Inquisitors to meet with High Palatine Manlia, assure them I will also take this chance to scout the fields, and the positions near the Hill. I will use magic to signal for him to come meet me.’’
His inquisitor scribbled away while he spoke.
‘’Tell the First Citizen, I highly recommend him to him unload our artillery. Blow up the bridge behind us so no one gets the idea of retreat, and strengthen our northern flanks, he would know the best disposition to do this.
Just in case the rabble decides to go for our throats again.’’ He would not go and debate with the other commanders, he had no time for such activities. Not if he wanted to get over this overdue conversation with Manlia. He trusted the First Citizen to properly explain his ideas. Tweaking them within the boundaries of acceptableness.
The Inquisitors ran out towards the First Citizen’s position.
While he prepared to ride off.

Map to drawing of orders: docs.google.com/drawings/d/18DEAifyIwlVKzs5xNqyiQ1JiXF5AvVZzSIigOsm16sI/edit?usp=sharingOOC: Since no one else is posting orders, Taniel is giving orders for the ENTIRE army. The army is wheeling West and we are wiping out Green Purple 1 (The sword guys by the river) with an overwhelming attacking. Red arrow shows the attack on the guys with all units on the western side of the army. Blue arrow shows the direction of the army travel. If we don't get attacked, we aren't stopping. (Unless we see a major enemy force) This is the way we are going. However, if the scouts report large enemy formations to our north, we are going to stop with our backs to the river. We are not engaging the Eastern Forces unless they directly attack us and then only enough to fight them off. STANDING ORDER, we are not pursuing enemies if they break and retreat. Second thing, we are sending scouts (I am talking a two pairs of men from my Triple Quality Marines for each scout position) along the river to the North East to check the bridge/town there. Another pair is following the road north to check the hill and past it. The last one is going on the hill to the North to let us know where the enemy is. See the yellow eyes on the map for scouting locations. Scout 1 is to light a green signal flare if they see the enemy army across the river. Red flare if the enemy is crossing the bridge. They light a blue flare if there is no enemy in sight there. Scout 2 is to light a green signal flare if there is no enemy on the hill. Red flare is there is a enemy force on the hill and a blue flare if they see a large enemy force north of the hill. Scout 3 is to report back if they encounter enemies or stay in their posted position. If they stay, they light a green signal flare to let us know it is clear. All scouts to fire a yellow flare if they encounter problems. Thirdly, we blow up the bridge we just crossed behind us and keep moving along the specified path.
Taniel stood up and looked around at the other officers left. "Gentleman... in light of a clear directive... we are out of time to argue about this." He said firmly pointed at the map. "Our Western units are attacking the unit here." He jabbed a finger at the enemy unit by the river. "And killing them." He turned to the north west and pointed at the hill. "We are marching that way." He looked around and wondered if anyone would disagree with him. None of the two other men seemed willing to countermand him so he walked away. He passed out the orders and watched the Inquisitor riding off on his horse... wondering if he would ever see the man again. "Send a runner to the men at the bridge to the south, have it blown up." He added as he walked. Walking back to his marines, he grabbed his Elite Marine Commander. "I need twenty of your best men experienced with woodcraft and scouting." He told Marine Captain Holden. "They are going on a scouting mission."
After a solid ten minutes of explanation, the marines jogged off with light kit. If all went well, they would regroup with the army after a few hours. With his orders given and the army moving, Taniel took his spot near the front of the formation to make sure his orders were followed.

OOC: The First Citizen is in full agreement with the orders of the Commodore, he will do whatever it takes to make sure that the army enforces them. He will also strive to ensure that the army keeps moving forward and does not fragment.. devision is death, a lesson that we do not need to learn a second time. He also gives a rousing speech inorder to inspire the army to march faster - that victory is still within reach and that, should we move as fast as we can, we may finally claim it.
