This is the thread for the Eclipse battle for the Republic side. Some pointers: - Keep discussion in other threads: this thread should be kept to the progression of the game itself (orders and updates)
- In-character posts are much appreciated! It makes for fun reading
- But it isn't necessary to write in-character posts - in fact, if you do, it can be a good idea to include an OOC segment that lists the orders clear and unambiguously
- Either way, feel free to - in your posts - describe (somewhat limited) events and interactions with other characters. Generally speaking, you should never make choices for anyone else, or describe the effects of major actions - just be sensible is all.
- When ordering things around, you can only give orders to units in the general vicinity of your (or an inactive co-player's) character. Within the limits of a turn, your hero can travel ~5 km and pass orders around as he goes.
- Each turn is a minimum of 2 full days from the day of the last update. (Might change, but for now.) If you haven't posted anything here by the time of the next update... the turn goes on without you!

Turn 0Two days until the Eclipse. Two days until the world is made anew, fresh and bright - or plunged back into darkness forever. For a hundred years, the men and women of the Republic has dreamed of a chance such as this. Two days, and Varantium only a few hours away! Two days - and all the might of the Dominion in the way. This morning, the Republican vanguard climbed into the hills of Ediren - not five leagues from the city. There have been no sightings of the Dominion forces, which have harassed the advance ever since Marialla, since yesterday. Spies have brought word that Black Sun - the most loathed of Radiance’s lieutenants, she who scorched the fields of Jovinium in the early days of the Revolution - has come to defend her vapid master. Who knows what evils the pits of Falor will spit out - what foul magics, cruel demons, possessors and defilers can that haunted place hide? But this is the Home City. This is where the first Empire of Man was founded. This is where the spirit of freedom was first wakened - only to be snuffed out by the Archons’ yoke. And so the men and women of the Republic march gladly, eagerly, to battle. They are the finest soldiers this world has ever known, armed with the bravery and industry of Man! At Marialla, they faced the charge of the Dominion’s finest - and tore it to shreds. The battle that lies ahead will be no different. --- OOC --- Thought this appropriate: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkk_FQPR9QcYour forces are arriving at the southern edge of the map, along the road. Feel free to start directing your troops around!

Garrek was mounting up. His heart was a-flutter as the unfamiliar general's outfit hung around him, just a bit ill-fitting. He'd promoted his two subordinates, Jellard and Oshett to Colonel and Commandant, respectively. Both men remained as scruffy as ever. Uniform discipline was loose in the Foreign Regiments, and both men seemed to share the view that the more they resembled their troops, the less likely they were to get zapped to death by some magus in battle.
Looking at his blue outfit, which he expected to paint with red by tonight, Garrek considered their view, and found it lacking. Death is certain, the day uncertain, as the saying went. "If I am to die", he said, quite out of the blue to anyone not in the know of his line of thought, "I will die a General. And any who pass my body will know it."
Jellard shrugged and spat onto the ground as he started to climb onto his own horse. He wasn't used to riding, but he saw the necessity in an officer having a horse. The regiments were forming up behind them. "I don't expect to see any fighting until the midday, but we'd better be ready just in case", he said off-handedly, his thoughts elsewhere entirely. Today would change history. Tomorrow would make it.
"We march to battle!" He shouted at the first ranks behind them. Some of them were his own Foreign Regiments, others were inquisitors and sappers on loan from the other parts of the army. "We march for glory! And for the annihilation of a false God!" And so they moved onward, to the glorious task of securing and demolishing a bridge.

Turn 1 - ends on Sunday 26th Link to map: dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/14467358/eclipse/eclipse_republic_tactical_ag80135dgva_001.jpgHigh Inquisitor Pietro GoriYour cavalry force is making its way across the plain. While descending from the hills, your Inquisitors detected several traps, and quickly disarmed those nearby to allow your force safe passage. The Inquisitors warn, however, that there may be more traps - magical and otherwise - mining the battlefield, outside the range they were able to reach. General Garrek (Renal Sistorian)Your Red batallion is inching up the road, entangled with the Yellow. You can see hints of the enemy forces on the opposite side of the plain. First Citizen Avus Gula
Like Garrek, your Yellow batallion is marching down the road towards their objective. Commodore "Black Jack" Taniel CorsoThe artillery is slow. But rolling along, well protected on all sides by men marching in the fields.

Garrek listened to the reports coming in from outriders and scouts and messengers. He and the First Citizen were riding at the front. General Otakar's plan had been for them to claim the crossing points of the northern stream, but it turned out the enemy had stolen the night's march on them, and it was too late for that.
"They are occupying strategic locations", he mused. "And the road ahead is trapped. Under no circumstances should we proceed onward without letting our artillery catch up." Looking over, he saw that Gula had come to something resembling the same decision, and was turning his troops eastward.
"Form a defensive line here, at the top of this hill", he ordered his underofficers, pointing his commander's baton along the landscape. "Keep an eye for incoming enemies, and wait for Commodore Corso's artillery to get here."
"What of our pioneers?" Asked Jellard quickly.
Garrek waved his hand casually. "Send them to join the Terrain Manipulation Inquisition. They'll need any help they can get to make us a way to cross this river. Send along my recommendation that this crossing be created further south than Otakar's plan, away and safe from all this enemy regiments closing in."
With a weary eye, he turned to look at the hill overlooking their position in the west. "Send one regiment on top of that, to alert us if the enemy tries anything sneaky from that direction."

I see in the distance some soldiers warding the bridge, terribly familiar soldiers. They are obviously trying to prevent us from crossing our lure us to ouur deaths. But its not today the day I give them that pleasure. I turn around with our riders south, to accompany and protect my Inquisitors while they build a bridge.
[Green squadron goes south to point Y, checking and disabling as much traps they can on the way.]

Taniel sighed as the artillery train kept moving. He was riding near the head, just behind the Marines forming the vanguard. He glanced to the units flanking them as well. "Now, if I was the Dominion Commander and I wanted to destroy the enemy's artillery... how would I do it?" He mused aloud as he looked around.
"Probably distract us with a conventional attack and then move in Pacters to attack us." He said quietly and looked around once more.
"Captain." He called out the Marine Captain Kasper.
"Sir?" Kasper said turning his head.
"Please keep some marines in reserve no matter what happens later. Ready them to fight Pacters." Taniel said calmly, his hands straying to toy with the grip of one the multiple pistols he kept loaded and ready at all times.

Turn 2 - ends on Wednesday 29 (midnight European time) Link to map: dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/14467358/eclipse/eclipse_republic_tactical_ag80135dgva_002.jpgHigh Inquisitor Pietro GoriSteering your force south, you noticed a small party of enemy cavalry riding across the plains from the north, to the east and across the river to the city there. A messenger of some sorts? Regardless, your cavalry has made its way down crooked country lanes and have taken up position next to the river. The Third Inquisition company arrived only a short time before you, and have begun working their magics to create a bridge across the river - it will take them some time yet. The rest of the Orange batallion is approaching, but were slowed down while descending the Ediren hills by having to disarm several traps. General Garrek (Renal Sistorian)Your forces have taken up their positions as ordered. A few traps were discovered by the Inquisition company, but were swiftly dealt with. Earlier, you spied a flock of birds in the sky - and, confused, you realized they must have been huge but at a very great distance. They skirted the Ediren hills from the west and then headed off to the north and Falor. Some sort of spirit beast, certainly. Following that, a great noise and flashes of light began rumbling from the western of the three hills in the centre of the valley, and fog has started to cover it. Your men mutter, disconcerted, wondering what this might portend. Now reports come from the southern regiment on the hill - an enemy cavalry force has appeared from the hills. First Citizen Avus Gula
The Yellow and Orange batallions have gotten into some confusion, after several traps were discovered. Though the Inquisitors disarmed several, a large explosion injured several dozen men. Commodore "Black Jack" Taniel CorsoStill rolling along. The infantry marching in the fields have taken up a merry marching song.

The troops who climbed to the top of the western hill fired a soft red flare into the sky, which was immediately reported to Garrek by his leftenants. "All right. We can't let the enemy take that cliff. Send word: half of our troops stay here and fortify the western flank, while the rest climb up there. I'll take the inquisitors with me up." Jellard turned north cautiously. "We'll be leaving our northern flank unprotected." "We've got field of vision four miles north of here, and nobody's coming. If the enemy does charge, Corso will have time to put his own defenders to meet them, and to start cannon fire on top of that." Garrek pointed his baton and had the orders relayed. [Exact orders in the planning document.]

I feel in my skin, there is something wrong with that light. Something I haven't seen before, could it be the Radiant Lord himself? Coming to face us? Knowing that the eclipse would spell his end?
Regardless, I cannot let that be a threat, I leave the builders and my Inquisitors building the bridge, and take on the cavalry on recon mission.
I have to find out what it is.
[Green squadron goes around and returns to its position, following the path marked in the map, and attempts to disable any traps it can on the way]

Turn 3 - ends on Monday 4 (GM gone for the weekend) Link to map: dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/14467358/eclipse/eclipse_republic_tactical_ag80135dgva_003.jpgHigh Inquisitor Pietro GoriAs his batallion once again crossed the plains, the High Inquisitor surveyed the enemy lines. To the north, east of the hills commanding the landscape, there seemed to be a line of enemy infantry - two or three regiments at the most. Thunder rolls over the valley, and artillery strikes the southern hill before Gori's advancing troops - and soon he realizes why. Enemy archers have commanded the heights, and fire into the cavalry's midst. The artillery has stopped, so as not to strike Gori's cavalry by accident. Pushing on and rounding the hill, he sees the northwestern hill before him - almost engulfed in a thick mist. Flashes of lighting continue. Summoning his abilities, the High Inquisitor focuses his formidable intellect at the mystery before him: what was this devilry? As far as he could tell, there was only that which he saw - a thick mist, and occasional bursts of light. The rest, the noise of magical channeling, seemed incoherent, without meaning. General Garrek (Renal Sistorian)The enemy cavalry was pulling away already before Garrek's advance west began. Even so, he continues west - though is hampered by traps in the hills. The Inquisitors manage to disarm several, but the southern flank suffers some casualties nonetheless. From the hills' vantage point, Garrek sees through his looking-glass the regiment of cavalry he was pursuing ride west, join with the greater force on the road there, and turn south. First Citizen Avus Gula
The Yellow batallion is in position. The artillery on the higher ground has begun firing across the valley - their elevation must have lent them some additional range. Commodore "Black Jack" Taniel CorsoA sorcerous bridge has been created, and forward companies of the Orange batallion are already crossing it. The Pioneer regiments are busily preparing a pontoon bridge farther south, which should be ready within an hour or so.

As the enemy retreated before Garrek's approach, he nodded in pleasure. They would be hooking up south, trying to find a weakness.
"Everything is going according to plan for now", he announced as he turned his forces back, heading down to the cannon lines which had formed at the cliffside. "With any luck, they will haven't figured out we're crossing the river."
As his forces headed back down the way they'd come from, Garrek noticed that no one in the high command had their standard by the cannon lines. "Don't mind if I do", he said to himself and rode forward to take command.
After being briefed on happenings up north, he nodded. "Wait for the High Inquisitor to move out of the way, and then fire all cannons at that foot regiment on our side of the stream." Soon, he'd take the cannons east, and start the complete evacuation of this side of the river. But for now they'd keep up the pretense they were readying to approach that glow.
